Apple Seeds iTunes 10.5 Beta 9 to Developers

itunes 10 5 beta 9
Just days before Apple's iPhone media event where the company is also expected to make the final public introduction of its iCloud services, Apple has seeded developers with the ninth beta version of iTunes 10.5. The release comes three weeks after Apple seeded the previous beta.

The beta 9 release is a required update for all developers testers of the company's forthcoming iTunes Match service, although the company continues to note several known issues with the release, including the following:

- "Scan and match" feature is not yet complete. Some users' tracks may not be recognized by iTunes Match even if the tracks are available in the iTunes Store, and those tracks will be uploaded to the users' iCloud storage. Some tracks may also be mis-matched to a different version of the same song on the iTunes Store.

- Music can only be added to iCloud from one computer at a time.

- Updating an iOS device to iOS 5 beta 7 may result in music failing to play. Users should turn off iTunes Match in settings and then turn it back on to restore functionality.

Apple continues to warn developers that their iCloud music libraries will be deleted at the end of the beta, so developers should be sure to maintain local copies of their music libraries.

Test Settings I did four separate tests using the iPhone 17 Pro Max, and I kept the parameters as similar as possible. Here are the...

Which is why the GM has to land today, not in 4 days at the keynote, if the rumored release dates are even possible.

It's basically all hinges on today. If the GM is seeded today, then at the keynote they will acknowledge it and say we're accepting Apps starting today (on the 4th). They'll go on to announce that iCloud and iOS 5 will be released on Oct. 10th/11th. And iPhone 5 Oct. 14th.

I don't think the GM will be released today, because it will include functionality related to the new hardware that was not announced yet.

I think it will come the day of the keynote and developers will have 10 days to test their apps on the final version of iOS5, until the iPhone and iOS5 are released on Friday, October 14th.

That's my prediction.

Also, will they add a feature that allows users to select which songs are matched and uploaded? I'm sure I'm not the only one who has things that I just don't want in the cloud (much less taking up the space or wasting time uploading). Seems like a necessary feature but still no sign of it, doesn't make me optimistic.

Option-click iTunes icon. Create new library. Turn on Match. Open old library in Finder. Drag songs in and update Match.

----------

I think it's got another couple of months to go folks.

iTunes already has trouble finding album artwork for CDs ripped with iTunes, of music that is already in the iTunes store. That doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in Match.

Exactly what I've said on previous threads about Match. It's not rocket science and yet album artwork fails for tracks that are in the iTunes store and named exactly the same way.

I know this post will be down voted...

You know, starting with a comment like that is probably the likeliest way to get a post down voted...

we are gonna go from iTunes 10.5 beta 9 to final release in only 4 days?!
Actually final release won't be until the week that iOS 5 and the new iPhone releases, so probably 2 more weeks yet.

Does anyone know if the current "match" feature in iTunes has any hints of a "see-before-you-buy" option -- that is, can you tell how much of your music library iTunes was able to match, before buying the match feature? It would really suck if you had to buy the "match" feature before seeing how much of your library would be matched. Thanks.
